Hidden within the foliage, unseen creatures lie dormant, waiting to be awakened. Visitors are invited to speak into a series of sculptural microphones, sending waves of sound through the landscape. As voices accumulate, the environment begins to stir—shadows shift, forms emerge, and fantastical creatures gradually reveal themselves from within the vegetation. At peak moments, multiple creatures appear and interact before slowly dissolving back into the garden, returning the space to stillness. Blending seamlessly into a living garden bed, the artwork creates the sensation that an unseen ecosystem is listening, responding, and coming to life through collective participation.

Inside the Installation

Materials: Projectors, Showtex fabric, PVC, wood, speakers

  1. A single voice may awaken the landscape, but collective participation brings the ecosystem fully to life.
     
  2. None of the creatures in the installation belong to a real species. Each one is a hybrid assembled from multiple animals and insects.
     
  3. Unexpected behaviors discovered during prototyping often become some of our favorite parts of the final work.

Artist Bio

HYZ Studio

HYZ Studio is an immersive storytelling studio founded by Lois He and Vio Zhu. Working across XR, interactive installations, live performance, and large-scale projection mapping, the studio creates experiences that blur the boundaries between physical and digital worlds. Their practice investigates how emerging technologies reshape perception, memory, and human relationships, often placing audiences at the center of the narrative. HYZ's work has been presented internationally at venues and festivals including the Dalí Museum, SXSW, SIGGRAPH, Genius Loci Weimar, and the Video Mapping Festival, while also creating commissioned projects for clients such as LVMH, GQ, Cadillac, Coach, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
