Reflections in Nature is a visual journey inspired by the beauty of the gardens, the diversity of its ecosystems, and the magic of light meeting a living canvas. Natural organic patterns are juxta positioned with kinetic motion and a spirit of playfulness, weaving the “magic” of projection mapping onto the Event Garden’s variety of plants, trees, and flowers. An original soundtrack provides a sonic counterpart to the richness of the visuals.

Pro Tip

During this 5-minute experience, keep your eyes peeled for some friends of the gardens, both familiar and unexpected. Guests are encouraged to watch the video loop more than once to gain a new perspective and to identify a few fun surprises sprinkled throughout. Please step aside off of the main entrance pathway and onto the grass to allow other guests to enter the space.

Inside the Installation

Materials: Projectors, 3-D animation software, multimedia and projection mapping software, original soundscape

  1. Over 100,000 frames were rendered and integrated into this piece.
  2. It took roughly six months of collaborative effort to produce.
  3. This is the artist’s first-time projecting onto a botanical, organic, non-uniform surface.
  4. During production, the team reviewed over 50 different troll images before settling on the family sprinkled throughout this piece.
  5. The projection mapped visuals are complemented by a custom soundscape created by a group of musicians to enhance the experience.

Artist Bio

Chaske Haverkos

Chaske Haverkos is a director, immersive designer, 3-D animator, and projection-mapping artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP school of design, Chaske has operated in the advertising, creative, and entertainment fields for over 15 years, working with a diverse set of clients, companies, public entities, and organizations to help create rich visual content for audiences of all sizes, while utilizing a constantly-evolving spectrum of technology and technique to facilitate collaboration and achieve unique, beautiful visual experiences.

Chaske’s work fuses traditional design practices with new creative technologies to meld sound principle with aspirational vision, while executing creative direction and intentionality, to achieve new and incredible forms of animation and experiential design. He is currently a freelance artist and animator with a passion for creating immersive audio-visual experiences via the projection-mapping and exploratory light-art mediums while using a combination of traditional 3-D animation and motion graphic techniques, cutting-edge technology, and unique new-media approaches to facilitate these creative efforts.
